Club History
Established in 1951, the Lockleys Football Club has been a mainstay of local football for over seven decades.
Our History
The Demons competed in the Glenelg South Football Association from the time of their establishment in 1951 until the end of the 1985 season. They struggled initially, but by the mid-1960s had developed into one of the competition’s leading sides. A premiership in 1965 was followed by a couple more during the 1970s. In 1979 Lockleys merged with Torrensville United, although in some respects it appears to have been more of a takeover than a true, 50-50 amalgamation as the new club retained the Lockleys name, colours and insignia.
Since 1986 the Demons have competed in the South Australian Amateur Football League, initially in A5 Grade, from which they achieved promotion as premiers in 1992. An A4 premiership came their way the very next year after a 16.12 (108) to 10.12 (72) grand final defeat of West Croydon.
In 2015 the Demons contested the Division 6 grand final, and although they lost by 28 points to Smithfield they nevertheless achieved promotion to Division 5 where, in 2016, they again did well, qualifying for the finals and ultimately finishing third. The 2017 season again brought finals qualification for an eventual finishing position of fourth while a year later the Demons’ season was ended at the elimination final stage by Woodville South.
In 2020, Lockleys furthered their resurgence by claiming the D5, D5R and C5 premierships. This marked the first time the club had won three senior grand finals.
In 2021, Lockleys once agained claimed the D5R and C5 premierships, while also claiming their maiden Women’s A Grade premiership. This feat was achieved with the Women’s team in only their second season.
In 2022, Lockleys had all five senior teams play finals (Division 5, Division 5R, C Grade, D Grade & Senior Women’s) and ended the season claiming the D5R and C Grade premierships for the third season in a row. This also saw the club promoted to Division 4.
2024 saw Lockleys Football Club progress even further, the both Senior Men’s and Women’s A Grade making finals, as well as the B, C and D grade sides. Even more encouraging was the fact the A, B and C sides made the Grand Final. Despite not coming away with wins on the day, this saw the club promoted again after a single season in Division 4 to Division 3. The growth of the Women’s side also saw the inaugural Women’s B grade side start in 2024, providing another avenue of development for our women’s sides.
